Giclée
(ghee-clay) printing is digital printing. Once your
painting or photo is turned into a digital image, it can be
printed in amounts as small as one. There are no plate charges!
This means that if you’re going to a show and expect that you
will be selling 5 prints, you can have 5 prints made and be done
with it. This means no inventory! Additionally, these prints are
of excellent quality with a value that often surpasses that
offset printing.
There are several different kinds of papers to choose from; you
can print on a canvas, photo glossy (and semi gloss), and a high
quality watercolor. The inks are archival inks and made to show
vibrant color for years to come.
I've found that Giclée printing has been effective for
· Testing the market with a new idea or image and then ordering
as interest grows.
· Ordering prints as needed with out large up-front costs
· Paint directly on the image (restrike the image to produce a
new individual "mixed media" piece)
· Paint on the medium of your choice and then offer smaller or
larger reproductions on different medium
